If you ran in my tiny circle in high school, then chances are you knew about my crew's obsession w/ the vital 90s "emo" band CaP'n Jazz - AKA Tim Kinsella (Joan of Arc, Owls, Friend/Enemy), Davey Von Bohlen (The Promise Ring, Vermont, Maritime), Victor Villareal (Ghosts and Vodka, Owls), etc etc. Pretty much every member went on to make more music released by the Jade Tree Label out of Chicago. There was a time when me and my good friend / neighbor / bandmate JPK would buy anything these dudes put out.
Well, it turns out their high school band CaP'n Jazz are doing some reunion shows, w/ more scheduled (who knows, maybe they'll make it down south?)
In the meantime, enjoy this boot-leg set at Chicago's Empty Bottle. They were billed under the name "Local Cover Band" ... always clever men.
