Almost by accident, I caught half of the set of a band called Puro Instinct last night @ The Ariel Pink show @ Local 506 in Chapel Hill. Onstage were what looked like members of some strange Aryan love cult made up entirely of blond preteens: PURO INSTINCT (formerly Pearl Harbor for all you hipsters in the know).

Seriously, I felt strange watching a band who's members were all definitely younger than me. I felt old...
I think that uneasy feeling also translates to their music: a mix of Fleetwood Mac (on downers) with Sonic Youth-like guitar lines and Ariel's knack for strange, visceral dance moods. The singer (in her early 20s) reminded me of a sulky, though less vulgar Courtney Love at times, while her 16 yr. old (seriously?) sister plucked out spidery guitar lines that Tom Verlaine would surely approve of.
Here's a track off their new EP that I can't get out of my head (damn it):
"Slivers Of You"

I went ahead and downloaded the whole thing this morning on their bandcamp page: http://puroinstinct.bandcamp.com/ They have some sort of weird 80s Russian design aesthetic going on. Kids Today!
Oh, and Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti were amazing (mostly)...maybe more on that soon? A little hungover and still trying to process it.
