Reading the pretty excellent book Hüsker Dü: The Story Of The Noise-Pop Pioneers Who Launched Modern Rock. It's an interesting as of yet, untold history of the Minneapolis/St. Paul Minnesota underground rock scene that birthed some of the best punk and "hardcore" bands of the early 80s. It was interesting to find out that the 2 flagship bands to come out of that area, Hüsker Dü and the Replacements had somewhat of a rivalry - with the former taking the more DIY (out of necessity) road, self-releasing much of their early records under their own imprint Reflex Records, and the latter getting the local king's treatment of being instantly signed to Twin Tone - the city's premiere indie label. Here's some of my fav live videos of both of these incredibly creative and incredibly different bands.
